COMMERCE CASINO COMMUNITY RELATIONS; CARING ABOUT COMMERCE AND THE SURROUNDING COMMUNITY

Commerce Casino is more than just the largest employer in the City of Commerce. It’s more than the leading tax generator to the City of Commerce. It’s more than just a major player in the region’s economic development and community stability. It’s also the largest philanthropic organization in the area.

Since the Casino was chartered in 1983, it has taken a leadership role in the community surrounding the hotel/casino complex, which employs 3,000 people in the region and pumps in more than $15 million to the local tax base. A large part of that commitment has been to “give back” to the community by investing in its youth, supporting regional programs that benefit low-income families and fostering educational opportunities for young people in Commerce and the surrounding communities. Commerce Casino strives to be a good neighbor and to help improve the quality of life for those people who live in the Casino’s area of influence—cities that include Commerce, Montebello, Bell Gardens and Downey, among others.

The programs that the Casino supports include everything from a children’s bicycle safety fair staged by the City of Commerce each summer to a college scholarship program for the region’s young scholars.  On an ongoing basis, it provides funding to two widely-hailed regional youth organizations.  Commerce Casino is also a very active participant on the Commerce Industrial Council, the city’s equivalent of a chamber of commerce, which enhances the relationship between city government and the business community. One of the Casino’s most anticipated activities each year is its sponsorship of the City of Commerce’s annual Holiday Party for 50 children from low-income homes.

As Commerce Casino continues to prosper, so will the community from the Casino’s largess. Commerce Casino is committed to enhancing the lives of those who live in and around the City of Commerce and the neighboring cities though the Casino’s community giving programs.

Letter from Debbie Payne, Commerce Casino Community Relations Director:

At Commerce Casino, we see ourselves as an integral part of the community. Over the past nearly 25 years we have enjoyed a tremendous relationship with all sectors of society in Commerce and the surrounding cities. We believe in the people here for they are our extended family, and it our desire to help generate an environment for their success and happiness. It is especially our pleasure to help create opportunities for our neighborhood children and youth to thrive, learn and grow. There is nothing more exciting for our staff than seeing the Casino’s contributions paid back in hugs and smiles. We look forward to many years ahead where we can continue to support our neighbors in ways that touch our hearts and enrich our community. -- Debbie Payne, Commerce Casino Community Relations
